Why Things Don’t Get Done

Why don’t we get more done?

Our thoughts can block our actions.

It really is that simple.

Our desire to feel something or not feel something fuels our actions.

It’s easy to think that we don’t like the work. But that’s not it. It’s really because of what we are thinking now.

Our thoughts propel or stop us because they create feelings.

Our thoughts are the reason we act or don’t act. What is the thought? What is the feeling?

Our feelings are our choice. Our thoughts create our feelings.

So, how do we get going?

We change our thoughts. Brooke Castillo calls this process The Self Coaching Model.

However, don’t be in too big of a hurry to change your thoughts. First notice them. (Meditation can help.) Write them down.

Now that your thoughts are in plain sight, ask yourself what feeling you’d like to have once you’ve done the doing. When you check that item off your To Do List, what will you feel? Name the feeling in one word.

You can have that feeling right now. You need it to take action.

Focus on the feeling that drives the action you need to take. Find the thought that causes it.

The action will follow the thought that drives the feeling as sure as day follows night.
